Another ‘feature’ (for us at least, as 3D distributors & producers) of this event was the 3D Film Mart where a selection of 20 European film projects in the development stage was pitched to a jury of international investor over the two-day event. This year’s composition of the jury attracted big names in the 3D industry like Anthony Geffen of Atlantic Productions and Sophokles Tasioulis of Red Bull Media House.
It is with great delight that we announce the winner of this year’s 3D Film Mart Best Movie Pitch Award went to – Calcio Storico, by our friends and partners at COWPROD. On receiving the award, Michael Caranicolas of Cow Prod thanked 3D Film Mart and its organisers TWIST Cluster, the University of Liège and Peacefulfish for the fact that he came to the market “with an idea and we’re going home with a film”.
Calcio Storico is an early form of football that originated in the 16th century, Florence, Italy and after a hiatus of around 200 years the game saw a revival in the 1930s, where players from four historical suburbs of Florence, dressed in authentic periodic costumes, battle it out in front of thousands of cheering spectators. Whilst the blood and brutality of the sport makes a sensational story – the focus of this documentary is about something deeper – the human behaviour, group dynamics and social issues that surrounds this sport – all done against a stunning 3D backdrop.
